People
are always keen to see some of the on-going work that we are busy with,
so
we created a section of the web site just for that.
Here
we will show some of the custom built work that is going on, and
some of the major customizing of other makes of guitars that come in to us for repair.

CUSTOM KORINA LION
|
 |
 |
Here is a Korina Lion that has been in the works a while
We got started on this one a few years ago when the player it was for got a place at University and asked us to put the build on ice for a year or two, but we are back on the case now he's back.
This one is going to feature a set of EMG 25th Anniversary pickups that the customer supplied
The paint finish will be a silver metal flake not unlike the Gretsch silver jet.
An all access neck joint will make top fret playing a breeze too .
Unusually the neck has 24 frets on a Fender 25.5" scale and will feature abalone trim and LEDs up the neck
Should be fun ! |
Return of The Mac
 |
Andy asked us to make this very tasteful Lion
He selected a tasty piece of flame maple and had us take measurements from his favourite Les Paul for the neck shaping.
The body is lightly chambered to reduce the weight to between 8-9lbs which he wanted as his Les Pauls were a heavy burden to wear for a long time.
Grover tuners, Earvana nut, TonePros bridge and an aluminium tailpiece held by Tonepros locking studs
Fitted with some Bareknuckle Crawler pickups - this beast sounds superb

LION - ARMAGEDDON IT
 |
Rock, Rock till you drop!
Will asked to make a guitar that would be equally at home in the hands of Zakk Wylde or the late Steve Clark from Def Leppard.
We achieved multiple body binding , mother of pearl inlays and a nice deep chunky neck that feel amazingly comfy
This guitar is the first one that we used the Seymour Duncan Triple Shot pickup rings with micro switches on.
This allows the player to quickly select series humbucking or parallel connected coils as well as two single coil options for each pickup - what a great palette of tones are available from the fitted Bare Knuckle "Cold Sweat" pickups.
We are going to do this guitar in a see-though white - like a Mary Kay strat
We even posted a clip on Youtube for Will to see before he got a chance to come try it out : click here

A second Korina Lion for a lucky customer
 |
Phil who is already the lucky owner of the turquoise Korina Lion That I had so wanted to keep for myself asked us to make another just like it with a few added extras.
So we kept the Korina construction and the all access neck- this time went with a rosewood board(still with Dunlop 6000 fretwire), the Sperzels, Earvana, BareKnuckle VH2 pickups and tonepros hardware.
However this time the bridge is a Graphtech Ghost piezo bridge with an Acoustisonic pre amp
At the flick of a switch this guitar goes from raunchy electric to great sounding acoustic guitar.
Phil asked us for a Purple finish , which will compliment the aquamarine on his other one - FAB!
Check out a YouTube of me testing this guitar here - excuse the playing though!

Attack of the Villa V
 |
Many of you will know that I love Flying Vs and Michael Schenker
When Jason said he wanted a Schenker inspired guitar I was only too happy to oblige.
The unique twist that Jason added was that the guitar wasn't going to be Schenker's trademark half white/half black colour scheme, but instead would be half claret and half sky blue
in homage to his beloved Aston Villa soccer team's colours.
Jason was all for keeping the controls simple with just a master volume and tone and 3 way switch but having seen another guitar with the Seymour Duncan Triple Shot he decided to have one on the neck pickup and what awesome results it gives. The jack socket in the upper fin keeps the cable out of the way and recessed Dunlop straplocks complete the package
The inlays are a split V shape using alternating pieces of abalone and Pearl - partly inspired by the badge on a Cadillac car.

Buckethead Lion
 |
Here is a fab Lion model that features a 3 piece maple neck topped with a thick slab of ebony. We fancied doing a Lion model without any inlays and in a solid white colour having seen clips of Buckethead and his distinctive guitar.
We however decided to use black hardware to contrast heavily with the stark white body to give a very visually striking looking axe
Still pondering which pickups to use- any requests? |
Sykes Lion
 |
Whilst we were making iconic looking Lion models I felt I couldn't resist making one of my all time favourite guitars which was the black LP custom wielded by John Sykes of Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake fame.
The mix of a black guitar and Chrome hardware along with mirror chrome pick guards makes for a very tasty looking guitar
Here is a link to his now battered guitar |
Flametop Lion Cub
Lightweight Flame top Lion
 |
Every now and then I like to build a guitar for myself (in theory anyway - I always end up getting talked into selling them - I must make these ones extra special I guess).
I do always like to have a couple of Lions in stock to let players new to our range try them out to see what the fuss is all about . So in order to make sure we keep a couple of nice demo guitars available to try out I call them mine - or else they would sell as soon as they were finished
This was a body that we made a little bit thinner than the vintage spec Lion to make it a little lighter and more comfy.
Loaded with all my favourite parts: Sperzel tuners, Earvana nut, Dunlop6000 fretwire, BAre Knuckle Mule humbuckers, Tonepros hardware, aluminium tailpiece and TonePros locking studs, CTS pots and Vitamin Q capacitors this will be a superb guitar. It has a wonderful slim neck carve - only 42mm wide at the nut - easy to get your hand around. The all access neck joint is a dream to get up to the high frets .
I have decided that I want this one to be painted either like the PRS "tigers eye" or PRS "Tortoise" finish |
Explorer/Kelly
 |
Another guitar like the Thunderbolt shred guitar we made for a customer a couple of years ago.
We kept things a bit simpler this time around - using a apair of EMG humbuckers - an EMG81 at the bridge and an EMG60a at the neck
An Ibanez Edge Pro tremolo and some Sperzel non-locking tuners handle the tuning duties
We inlaid the neck carefully with the dots running along the top edgeup to the 12th - great for watching your chord positioning and along the bottom above the 12th fret for soloing |
Oversize ML
|
While we were experimenting with designs for the ML design for our Belgian customer we came up with this beast. We were trying to get a bigger beefier tone out of this design.
It is slightly bigger all round as well as being a bit thicker in the body than this type of guitar would usually be. We also put some hollow tone chamber to both keep the weight in check and add to the tonal character. Mahogany and flame maple construction with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard- nice stuff! This guitar is up for grabs - so give a shout if it takes your fancy.
It would best suit a tall-ish player

80s style hockey stick superstrat
 |
The title kind of says it all -
It's like a time warp back to 1984 when you couldn't get cooler than a hockey stick headstock guitar , some stripy trousers and a lot of good licks. An original Floyd and a great sounding humbucker is all that is required to rock out here.
Tempted to go with a George Lynch theme on this one as an homage to the player who my favourite shredder of the day |
80s style hockey stick superstrat number 2
 |
Whilst we're on an 80s trip here is another one the same - except for the maple fingerboard. the inlays are Black tahiti pearl Frets are Dunlop 6100 and it will feature an original Floyd Rose tremolo and a hot pickup
Note the all access heel we have given these two guitars to allow easier access to the top frets |
 |
5 string bass
 |
Here is a real beauty of a 5 striung bass
A real Quilted maple cap on an alder body, custom wound soap bar humbucking pickups and Schaller hardware
We will keep the colour finish natural - there is such a nice colour tint in the maple anyway to look fantastic
The top wood came from the same batch that we used on this guitar

TABBY HYBRID
 |
Here is another Tabby Hybrid guitar
We made one a few years ago and it got an absolutely rave review in Guitar Buyer magazine
Click here to download PDF of that review
This time around we have gone for an alder body
and intend to put a tele style bridge pickup (A Bare Knuckle Boss) at the bridge paired with a some BKP Mother's Milk strat pickups all mounted on a traditional strat pickguard to give a really versatile sounding axe in a familiar feeling package. We are
still debating whether to put a thin
steel plate inset on the underside of the pickguard (like Fender did on the Jerry Donahue strat about 10 years ago) in an attempt to give evenmore tele like snap to the bridge pickup.
The Boss pickup is a real beast and is one of my favourite Bare Knuckle pickups and it covers everything from country blues all the way to blistering rock and metal - it has a great chunky yet articulate tone - highly recommended.
To cap things off I intend to fit a vintage tremolo made by Bare Knuckle as well with a heavy milled steel sustain block.
|
HARDTAIL STRAT
 |
Here we have a very traditional looking and feeling guitar
It has a pretty chunky late 50s vibe neck - albeit with a lovely rosewood board
We went with a 9.5" camber and Dunlop 6155 frets too
A trio of Bare Knuckle pickups - Irish Tours will give some great blues tones
We'll keep it simple and pure on this one |
Maple neck strat
I AM THE LAW
|
 |
This one needs no real introduction - does it?
It features one of my favourite drawings of one of my childhood comic heroes (Judge Dredd from 2000AD), artwork once again done by my airbrush wielding friend Nick Smith.
The neck will be inlaid with Dredd's familiar catchphrase that he never tired of telling lowlife criminals: " I AM THE LAW"
Those of you who know me well enough will spot the in-joke - my surname is "LAW"
Maybe I should show this to Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian when it is completed! |
